painter Rasmus Skov to exhibit in Ringkjoebing, and to-morrow there
is the inauguration in the City Hall where twenty or more of his works
being are shown. "We thought it could be fun to show somewhat older,
but modern paintings in Ringkjoebing - not the least because Rasmus Skov
still is alive [....]", says the chairman of the Art Association Jakki
Damgaard, Hee. [....] The board thought it was a good idea to make an
exhibition with Danish Cubism, because it it so seldom we get to see
anything in that genre in this country [....]”. [Thor:
Kubisme-udstilling, Rasmus Skov - 87 aar og maler; Ringkjoebing Tidende,
Ringkjoebing, 17 June, 1994]
After visiting Skov's 1994 Ringkjoebing
exhibition, the author
and art critic, Lars Egelund wrote: “Real Art is at City Hall.
[....] One can
get the suspicion that the artist deliberately has been put on ice
and
has not gained acceptance by
our cultural elite here at home? That
Cubism is not particularly well represented at the exhibition halls
in
this country, is a fact. One has to travel far to see Picasso and
Braque. [...]
If you have never seen genuine Cubism, then the chance is within
reach.
The Danish summer weather is not for the beach; but Skov ought to
have
the attention of everyone in Ringkjoebing until the Art Association
removes
him from the billboard on 10 July. Personally, I sat down one
afternoon in
front of the painting “L’Esperes, Provence”, and, if not stormy west winds
had been beating against the windows of City Hall, then it was
almost as
if sitting in Cezanne’s homeland; almost! One is not entirely the
same after having made the acquaintance with Rasmus Skov’s paintings. [Lars Egelund: Rigtig kunst er i Raadhushallen;
Ringkjoebing Tidende, 27 June, 1994].
